I am a data scientist and AI engineer who has spent the last couple of years working on some big projects for major clients all over the world. I’m now based in Europe but was born and have lived the vast majority of my life in Bim. I want to use my expertise to make everyday processes and elements of life in Barbados more efficient and easy for Bajans — from govt level to community level to individual level. I would like input on what are some of the major day to day issues for locals in 2026. One thing that sticks out for me like a sore thumb is public transport, fleet maintenance and road maintenance: delays, unavailability and things of that nature. I have already started developing solutions for this with one being a GTFS system: all bus stops, all routes, all agencies, route schedules etc; 2. creating models trained on high res frequently updated satellite images to determine places where road works are going on for too long or where road work is needed. I want to build things for the community at large to benefit first and foremost — obviously govt will benefit secondarily. Please offer your suggestions and input as I have taken a break from work and have a couple months to really dive into this as a passion project. I will soon send screen grabs of some of what I have developed so far for Barbados with one being a very data intensive prototype with comprehensive datasets recommendation modules for dining/transportation/bajan chatbot and more. Looking forward to hearing from everybody. Thanks!
