Vintage 1940s “Mixed Politics” punch board at an estate sale — elephant vs donkey boxing

Picked this up at an estate auction along with a bunch of others. Punch boards were everywhere in the 1940s and 50s, barbershops, diners, candy stores, basically scratch tickets before scratch tickets existed. Most were ruled illegal gambling in the early 1950s which is probably why they disappeared almost overnight.

This one is called Mixed Politics and has the Republican elephant and Democratic donkey literally boxing each other in a ring. 5 cents a ballot, $25 jackpot. Still has most of the punches intact. Colors still pop after all these years.

Feels oddly relevant for 2026.

What’s actually the worst record for the Cardinals this season?

Heard Burns and Gambo talking about worst outcome for the Cards after the schedule dropped and it got me thinking.

Everyone assumes 1-2 wins is the nightmare scenario but I’d actually argue 4-7 wins is the worst place we can land.

Here’s why. Win 1-3 games and we’re picking in the top 5, probably top 3. There is your franchise QB.

Win 8+ wins and Carson Beck has figured something out, we’re pushing for a wildcard, and the rebuild is ahead of schedule.

4-7 wins is purgatory. Too good to land a generational pick, not good enough to mean anything. And if Beck is still showing he’s a question mark at that point we’ve wasted a year without getting the answer or the asset.

Few close early season games go our way and 5-7 is genuinely realistic and we are less successful version of the Steelers. Middling team with no way to get franchise QB.

What’s your worst case?
