It’ll be fine they said, it’s USB-C they said

So I’d read a few things about Philips having changed their Sonicare 3000 from a USB-C connection to a proprietary one.. so I thought I’d reach out to Philips directly, since their product pages don’t say anything useful..

This is what I got 😡😡

LG ThinQ + iOS = no live activities

So.. I’ve been using an LG washer and overall I don’t mind the ThinQ app on iOS, it’s nice getting notifications that the washing is done..

But what’s missing (for me at least) is “Live Activities”.. Google seems to think live activities on iOS for LG washers is a thing, but I’m not sure how correct that is

FWIW I do have live activities enabled via app settings, as well as background refresh..

Live activities for other apps works just fine..

Is this just not a thing with ThinQ? Does it work for you, dear reader?

Switched from Telstra to Beyond.. regretting it hard

So.. I got fed up with Telstra not having any cheaper plans and figured, Belong would be a reasonable option - given I don’t need crazy data volumes and rarely make calls

Well colour me stupid.. I just returned from a short overseas vacation to find my eSIM just flat out doesn’t work anymore - no service, SOS only

And boy, do their customer service team want you to jump through some hoops!

None of the self service options work because they rely on me receiving verification codes via SMS (but no service, so that’s out)

Passing their security checks requires 2 forms of ID.. but the next time you call you have to do it all again.. and then again.. and inexplicably if you’ve already used one of those methods (eg: passport) it subsequently decides you can’t use it anymore - for reasons unknown

The call centre is seemingly offshore, or they only hire a specific demographic. They were all trying to be helpful, but none of them could explain the issue, nor would they escalate to a tech team

They said they could call me back (even to an international number) only to discover that, no, they couldn’t.. (hence me having to call multiple times and do the whole 2 forms of ID thing again and again)

Replacing the eSIM failed, again for reasons unknown.

At this point, all I want to do is switch to another network entirely, I’m done.. but, plot twist - I can’t generate a PUK code if I don’t have service!

Ultimately they had me go out and purchase a physical sim and transfer my number to it.. which, thankfully worked.. but damn, their esim registration system is sorely broken.. I’m literally paying for an eSIM now just so I can port my number and leave them behind (probably they have other ways to generate a PUK but I just can’t even deal with them at this point)

One support staff member posited it could be a bug in their system (no shit) and that after a period of inactivity they just disable it (I was away for maybe 10 days).. if that’s true, just.. wow..
