My Amaterasu Cosplay

Hi! New to the Reddit community but a long time Okami fan. I've been obsessed with it ever since I played it on the Wii (slightly late to the party but still glad to have attended!).

Last year I finally finished an Amaterasu cosplay I'd been working on and off for about 3 years, and she won first place in the Creators category at a convention! I just had to share it here. I'm currently working on a Shiranui one that I'm ambitiously hoping to have done by October for the same convention, but we'll see how that shakes out.

(Also sorry if the tag is wrong, I wasn't totally sure which to use for this!)

I was looking back on some miniatures I've painted over the years and realized my skill actually has improved, so I wanted to celebrate a little. Most of these were bought blanks (all Reaper, I think?), though the squirrel was 3D printed for me by a friend .

1-3 Baby's First Minis. She was a werewolf, so of course I had to have a mini for each form. I was mostly trying my hand at blending, which had varying degrees of success.

4-5 Learning detailing. My skill with blending improved and I started getting creative with "brushes," which means breaking toothpicks to have tiny points for outlining things. (Also my camera refused to focus on my Firbolg properly. This was the best one.) They were for a joke campaign, so my Fire Circle Druid named Squirrel summoned exclusively squirrels, including a flame spirit shaped as a squirrel. My friend decided I needed a mini for said flame squirrel and printed me one. He also printed little torches that we cut the flames off of to glue around the base for bonus fun.

6 Getting advanced. A character for a campaign that never was, but I'm still proud of her. I did the stippling on her skin with a plucked hair, and I also tried out some light mottling on the base for the first time.

7-8 Magnum opus. My latest creation so far, a snow leopard Bard. I found a pack of props and glued the lute to the back of a Tabaxi Rogue mini. I feel like I brought everything I learned over these few minis to her.

I think they're all still kind of basic work, but I'm proud of myself. Celebrate the little things. Cheers!
