I’m looking at having to replace the transfer case on my Expedition. It doesn’t disengage in 2H. The dealership recommended replacing it. 88k miles on the clock, and I’ve already had to pay for a new transmission. Different story for a different day.

Anyway is it a straightforward operation or do I need specialized equipment to get the replacement functional/calibrated?

I’ve turned a wrench or two, so I’m pretty comfortable doing this myself if nothing extra is needed.
