MY FIRST RIDE. BUT THERE WERE ISSUES...

MY FIRST RIDE. BUT THERE WERE ISSUES...

Hey everyone! I’m new to both cycling and this subreddit, so I’d really appreciate your guidance on a few things.

After seeing multiple recommendations here for a budget-friendly and value-for-money cycle (as suggested by u/Zilork ), I decided to go with the RS120. This is my first cycle ever, and today was my first ride in nearly two decades.

Overall, the experience was great and much easier than I expected. I genuinely enjoyed it.

However, I did face some issues with gear shifting.

The default gear worked perfectly fine, and the cycle rode smoothly on it. When I shifted up to the next gear, I noticed a slight discomfort—though I’m guessing that might just be because I’m new to using gears. But as I continued to upshift, I felt like pedaling required almost no effort at all. The pedals became extremely light, and at one point it felt like I wasn’t pedaling meaningfully anymore.

When downshifting, I noticed that once I returned to the default gear, the trigger became loose, which the Decathlon staff had already mentioned would happen. However, out of instinct, I pressed the already loose trigger once more, and the chain derailed, causing the cycle to stop. I then put the chain back in place.

Was pressing the already loose trigger the reason the chain came off?

Also, while downshifting at another point, the chain derailed again. I had to stop and fix it by backpedaling. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Despite these issues, I really enjoyed the ride and am excited to keep cycling. Would appreciate any advice or tips you can share!
