Character Guides

Hello! I have a question. What are your thoughts on character guides? Do you like seeing them in books, or no?

I’m writing a book based off of Egyptian mythology, so there are a few deities and creatures that could be a little hard to keep track of, especially with the longer names.

I personally do not like character guides, but I wanted to get your opinions. If yes, do you like it at the end or beginning of the book?

Here are some of the gods for reference:

Osiris - god of the afterlife and resurrection
Anubis - god of death and embalming
Horus - god of kingship and power
Ra - god of the sun and creation
Isis - goddess of magic and healing
Set - god of chaos and storms

Looking for a Writing Friend

Hey! I’m looking for a writing buddy, and I’m hoping to find someone interested in a more casual, friendship-style partnership. Preferably someone to swap critique with, help brainstorm, motivate each other, and just generally yap about writing and random things.

If you’d be interested, feel free to message me. Thank you!

Chapter 1-3 of The Twelve Gates [Mythological Fantasy, 7500 words]

Hey, guys! I’m writing a mythological fantasy, and I just finished my first three chapters. It’s around 7.5k words, and I was hoping to get some good critique to see what I can improve moving forward. It’s based on Egyptian mythology, and it has multiple PoVs.

Here’s the plot:
The children of the five most powerful gods must compete in a set of twelve trials, each corresponding to the twelve gates of the Duat, in order to ascend into divinity.

I’m looking for a few specific things like:
- info dumps
- slow/uneven pacing
- character voice
- cringey or awkward phrasing
- emotional beats executed well
- boring dialogue

Please be brutally honest. You can DM me if you’re interested. Thank you!

Hey, guys! I’ve tried writing and revising my book multiple times, and I finally figured out how I want to structure it. I started writing this draft about two weeks ago, and am about 6.5k in. I’m aiming for around 90k, but I was thinking of finding a co-writer to help. I don’t think I am too bad at writing; it just needs some refining and critique.

The book is based on Egyptian mythology. The vibe I’m going for is The Kane Chronicles x Katabasis x A Stage Set for Villains. The tropes are found family, trials, and divine control. If you may be interested or would like to have more information, feel free to message me!

If you are interested, could you please share with me a piece of your writing, so I can see your writing style? Thank you!
