Went to muku for Mother’s day dinner. Brief review

Tldr; Overall a pretty solid kaiseki. I think it’s on par with odo but both are below yamada. Menu at the end of pictures

The standout dishes were the Butterfish tempura with miso, the eel, and the japanese crown melon jelly with ice cream dessert. The miso sauce underneath the butterfish was the best tasting component of the entire meal. It was salty but not overbearing and paired well with the very light batter of the tempura. The dessert is probably the dish I will remember the most. It was nice to have the crown melon prepared in a way I had never seen before. Usually it’s served by itself as is. Here it was combined with California melon and then made into a jelly with pieces of melon still in there. We also added the fried wagyu supplement (at my mom’s request. It was mother’s day after all) and it was amazing, but $70 was a bit steep I think. Where muku fell short to yamada was the gohan course. Yamada’s main rice dish for the gohan was much more flavorful than muku’s. The sweetfish that was grilled in front of us really didn’t carry much flavor. There was some slight texture from the skin but that was all. Wish I got more from it. Overall we had a great dinner and happy we went.
