California birthday trip: Carmel and San Francisco, or Carmel and San Diego?

My husband and I are planning a birthday trip for early November (our birthdays are a week apart). I did the drive up the coast from LA to San Francisco back in 2019 and fell in love with Carmel by the Sea when we stopped for lunch, so that’s “my” pick for a few days of our stay.

My husband has never been to California and really wants to see San Diego, but said he could also be convinced to do San Francisco instead. Obviously I would love to be able to do all 3 but realistically, I don’t think we’ll be able to swing it financially or time-wise.

What would you do? Stay in San Diego for 2 nights, drive up the coast (ideally stay somewhere for a night about half way so we aren’t rushed and can enjoy the scenery), then do 2 nights in Carmel

OR

Stay 2-3 nights in Carmel, and 2-3 nights in San Francisco?

San Francisco makes so much more sense logistically, but also don’t want to try to persuade him to go somewhere else on what’s supposed to be *our* trip if he really wants to do San Diego.

Pros and cons of each option?

For public health professionals outside the US: how is your country’s public health infrastructure these days?

It goes without saying that things aren’t great in the US right now, so I wanted to start a discussion and see how other countries are doing in comparison.

-What are your country’s current top public health initiatives, priorities, or challenges?
-Have you noticed an increase in the spread disinformation or skepticism as it relates to medicine or science? It’s certainly increased since COVID here in the US, but maybe not so much in other countries?
-Funding wise, are you seeing cuts to programs and/or research, or have things been status quo? Perhaps things are going well and there’s been an increase in funding?
-Are you noticing an influx of researchers/public health professionals from the US?
-Any exciting recent public heath advancements or wins?

Looking for resources to brush up on statistics and research methods

Has anyone taken any courses on Coursera or similar platforms that you found helpful? Any other resources you’d recommend?

Not looking to get into the weeds of data analysis and using statistical software quite yet, but hoping for more of a refresh of the two subjects to better understand and interpret research findings.

Anyone have any intel or theories on how this $50 million was actually allocated? The article and press releases mentioned plans for the funds, but employees haven’t heard anything since. Are we just assuming it all went towards new projects/MUSC’s conquest to acquire rural hospitals throughout the state in pursuit of a healthcare monopoly?

With whispers of budgetary constraints (and speaking for myself as an employee, a potential pay cut as a result of such constraints 😒) less than a year later, I find the lack of transparency from leadership about where this money has gone pretty unacceptable, and even more unacceptable that a portion of it wasn’t reserved to help insulate employees from budget issues fully outside their control.

I’ve asked two higher ups I work with and their guess was as good as mine. On the off chance that the department chairs are on Reddit to provide an answer, anyone else have more details? Any other employees facing similar bullshit, feel free to DM me lol. Maybe no one knows and this ends up being more of a rant than anything
