I don't love eyelash extensions - maybe they're not for me?
My natural lashes are unfortunately very short and stiff, which means they don't curl at all, even if you use lash curler and mascara, they just won't. It has always been a big insecurity, so I decided to try extensions.
I had them done three times. First time, I wanted something natural looking, so I could get used to the new look gradually, therefore I asked for nothing too long. I wasn't sure about the colour, but my technician said, because my hair and lashes and eyebrows are naturally very dark, I should try black. So we did that. And even though she's done them beautifully, I still hated my face with these extensions - they looked everything but natural. I thought I only look good with them if I put on a very dark make-up - but I don't do that everyday. They weren't long for eyelash extensions, but still felt way too long to be considered "natural". So overall I was very disappointed.
I decided to give it another try. I had an appointment, and asked if I could get dark brown after all, and a little shorter this time. And I liked the effect - I still had some of my previous extensions on, so long black lashes mixed nicely with slightly shorter brown ones. The effect overall was both natural and somewhat dramatic. Unfortunately, I was losing black lashes quickly, so after a week or so, the effect was underwhelming. Not very different to my natural lashes before extensions.
Third time, I asked for dark brown again, but longer (the first length). I kind of liked them, but this time, if I put on a regular black make-up that suits me best (black eyeliner + kajal on my eyebrows), brown lashes look kind of out of place. I really wish so badly I could put a black mascara on them, but obviously I can't.
So now I'm really torn. I see so many pictures of girls who get extensions and look absolutely stunning right away. It hasn't really been the case for me. Black lashes look unnatural on me, yet I hate the fact that I can't put black mascara on brown ones. I also like to play with different colour mascaras, like blue or gold, and now I can't do that. I love eyeliners, but even with the most expensive no-oil make up removers, washing it off is a nightmare.
Overall, I just don't know if extensions are worth it for me.
