Need honest opinion on the cost of a wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor bookshelf

We have this study/loft area in our house, there is a big empty wall, about 10 foot wide and 8 foot tall. We thought of buying a standard bookshelf (I grew up with Billys) but are now considering doing a custom job that will pretty much cover the entire wall.

We got quoted ~7k and that's using laminate (less expensive and more durable than real wood apparently) and I was curious if anyone has done a custom job and whether this price comes close at all.

I've never spent so much on furniture but I figured this would last a lifetime and it will hold close to 1,000 books... but I just wanted to get a second opinion
