12 paying users in 3 weeks with $0 in ads — what actually worked

Launched GhostDesk 3 weeks ago.

Product: Windows AI overlay invisible

during screen sharing via OS-level

capture exclusion.

12 paying users. $0 ad spend.

What drove every single conversion:

  1. Hacker News technical post

    Explained HOW SetWindowDisplayAffinity

    works at the DWM level.

Got 2 paying users from Norway.

  2. r/developersIndia builder posts

Honest about being a student building solo.

Community responds well to genuine posts.

  3. The $5 24-hour pass

    Lower friction than monthly subscription.

Converts impulse buyers on high-stakes days.

  4. 3 day trial with no card

Every friction point removed at signup.

What didn't work:

→ Promotional language anywhere

→ Feature lists

→ Comparison posts ("better than X")

What's your highest converting

acquisition channel right now?

Found something that keeps AI answers visible only to you during screen share

Been prepping for placements and found

this genuinely useful.

Windows app called GhostDesk.

It puts an AI overlay on your screen

that disappears completely when you

share your screen on Zoom or Meet.

Works on HackerRank, LeetCode, VS Code —

any Windows app.

Anyone else using something like this

for placement prep?

What's your local setup during remote technical interviews that only you can see?

Curious what setups people actually use.

For remote interviews I've been keeping

a floating window on my screen that's

completely invisible when I share my screen.

Not a second monitor — those show up

if you're sharing full desktop.

This is a Windows app that uses OS-level

capture exclusion so it literally doesn't

exist in the screen share feed.

Currently using it to keep:

→ My thought process visible to me

→ Quick reference for patterns I forget

→ AI help without switching windows

Interviewer sees only my IDE.

Anyone else have a similar local-only setup?

What do you keep visible only to yourself?

I made a cluely and parakeet ai alternative for meetings and mock interviews that is invisible to all screen recording softwares. How I made it:-

I recently made https://ghost-desk.app - a Windows overlay that floats on top of your work. Ask it something, get an answer, never leave what you're doing. It also provides u realtime info during live calls and meetings and logs your meetings if u want. Never run out of context.

It helps with preparation for mock interviews and meetings

v1 got 300+ organic users before the infra gave up. Rebuilt everything for v2.0, launched last week. Got my first paying customer yesterday - small milestone but felt real.

What's inside:

Al chat that sits over any app

Deep Think mode for coding problems

Voice input + OCR

https://ghost-desk.app - free tier, no card needed.
