I have released an early version Chromecast Party Game inspired by Kahoot!, Jackbox, etc. The idea is to distribute it via Play Store and App Store... Since Jackbox is limited to Consoles and Netflix, and Kahoot requires subscriptions now. My family loves Jackbox but when we are travelling we don't have the Xbox with us.

If you want to give it a shot, it's super easy to Google because the name is somewhat unique... just look for "Zooked!" and you should find it on the Appstore or Google Play Store.

All feedback is welcome!

This isn't to get sympathy or anything, my life is fine and I am back on the wagon with new apps and realizing a big part of my first app's success was just that I was early on Android.

The new apps are now in a sea of other apps, however, so it's much more difficult to get traction now.

My first app was freemium and even with >10M downloads, peak monthly revenue was 600 bucks. I didn't want to ensh*ttify, before that was a word, so I never added ads nor subscriptions. When I was offered some money for the app, I figured that would give me a runway for a new app so I sold out. Someone else ensh*ttified the app instead, probably made stacks before the ratings dropped, and now they have surely moved on to ensh*ttify other apps as well.

Hindsight 20/20. I should have kept the first app, made a new app, and used ads in the old app to move people to the new one. I could have also raised the price of the old app - people did find it valuable (high rating) but I was too much of an engineer to value it highly.

So, don't do what I did. If your app needs to make you money to get your focus, then be the one to monetize it. Don't sell out and let someone else drive it into the ground.
