OpenStreetMap Mapping Party in Meerut!
Hello r/Meerut !
I'm one of the many volunteer OpenStreetMap contributors of India, and I invite you all to attend the upcoming OpenStreetMap mapping party in Meerut!
A mapping party is an opportunity for everyone to learn about OpenStreetMap, why it is important, some simple ways of using it, and how to help improve OpenStreetMap data for the benefit of all. And it's all free!
All participants will meet at a cafe over drinks (bill is on us, don't worry!), and have a 60-minute introduction and learning session. Then, we will split up into teams and work together to improve the OSM data for the nearby market. Finally, we all regroup, conclude, and get something to eat.
I particularly encourage women and members of the queer community to participate, as they are very underrepresented in the OpenStreetMap community. It takes a diverse community to make a community map!
📱 All you need is an Android or iOS phone
(Android preferred. Other suggestions - a power bank, a charging cable, and/or drinking water.)
🗓️ Date: Sunday, 12th of April
🕙 Time: 4 PM to 7 PM, followed by refreshments (sponsored by TomTom)

What is OpenStreetMap?
OpenStreetMap is a community-owned map of the world, made by people like you.
OpenStreetMap is libre data (or "open" data), which means it gives everyone the (legal) freedom to use, study, share, and improve it.
That means OpenStreetMap cannot be monopolized by any one company - so improving it benefits the whole world.
It also means OpenStreetMap is guaranteed to always be around, unlike companies which come and go.
