How noticeable is blooming on MacBook Pro (M5) for HDR + subtitles?
Hey everyone,
I’m considering buying a MacBook Pro (M5 base chip, 32GB RAM), but I’ve been going back and forth specifically about the mini-LED display and blooming.
Right now, I’m using a Lenovo Yoga 7 with an OLED display (around 500 nits SDR and 1000 nits peak HDR). I haven’t noticed any blooming at all on it, and HDR content looks great to me, even in dim lighting.
My main concern is this:
If I’m watching HDR content at high brightness, especially in a dark room, with subtitles on, how noticeable is the blooming on the MacBook Pro?
Some things I’d love input on:
Is the halo around subtitles actually distracting, or only noticeable if you look for it?
Does it get worse at higher brightness levels?
For someone coming from OLED, does it feel like a downgrade?
Do you eventually stop noticing it, or does it keep bothering you?
Also, if anyone can share real photos or videos showing the blooming (especially with subtitles in dark scenes), that would be super helpful. I’ve seen some online, but it’s hard to tell what’s exaggerated by the camera.
Trying to figure out if this is something that will annoy me long-term or if it’s one of those things that sounds worse online than it is in real usage.
Would really appreciate honest opinions from people who actually use it regularly.
Thanks!
