1-Month Update: IWC Ingenieur 35mm (My solution for the lack of micro-adjust, timegrapher data, and a wild QC story)
Hey everyone,
I posted an NWA about a month ago [https://www.reddit.com/r/IWCschaffhausen/s/eiry98e2vo] when I picked up this Ingenieur 35mm. Now that the honeymoon phase is settling, I wanted to share a realistic 1-month update.
First off, full disclosure: I actually had a minor heart attack right after getting it. The crown literally popped out. It’s obviously a huge QC miss for a watch in this price bracket. But to give credit where it's due, the IWC boutique/AD was fantastic. They took it in immediately, and handled it under the 8-year warranty with zero friction. It was a bump in the road, but it gave me a lot of faith in their customer service.
Moving on to the fit. I see a lot of people debating between the 35mm and 40mm. If it helps, my wrist is 16.2cm (6.38"), total width is 54mm, but my flat wrist surface is only about 40mm.
I tried the 40mm, but because the first link of the integrated bracelet stays pretty rigid, it totally overhung my 40mm flat surface. The 35mm, however, hugs the wrist perfectly. It seriously wears like a custom-made watch.
My biggest complaint in my first post was the lack of a micro-adjust clasp. Good news: I found a workaround. I went back and bought a single "long link" (9mm) to swap with a "short link" (7.5mm). By mixing and matching that 1.5mm difference, I found the absolute perfect sweet spot for my wrist, even when it swells in the afternoon. It cost me around $115 USD (3600 TWD), but it was 100% worth it for the comfort.
Finally, the movement. I threw the Cal. 47110 on a timegrapher just to see the 6-position data:
• Dial Up: -4.4 s/d | Dial Down: +0.5 s/d
• Crown Up: +5.0 s/d | Crown Down: -4.6 s/d
• Crown Left: +0.2 s/d | Crown Right: -1.6 s/d
So, the max delta is about 9.6 seconds. I know a 40-hour power reserve and a 9.6s delta might not look like the absolute top-tier specs on paper for this price point. Realistically, a big part of what you're paying for is the iconic Genta design, the spectacular finishing, and that incredible 9.4mm thinness that makes it so wearable.
But here is the crazy part: in real life, because of how my wrist moves throughout the day, those positional variances perfectly cancel each other out. My actual on-wrist accuracy over the last month is averaging around +2 second a day. I can't really argue with that. It proves IWC regulated it exceptionally well for dynamic daily wear.
Overall, it’s a killer daily driver if you have smaller wrists. Happy to answer any questions!
