i keep spotting the prettiest patterns in my wild type a. vulgare colony
they have been captive for generations at this point and i love seeing what sort of patterns show up in the gene pool, this 5 gallon has had a huge resurgence of pretty light ones lately :)

so apparently mercari’s got absolutely no clue what’s going on regarding other carrier’s shipping prices being modified 👍🏻
it’s like they’re responding with ai garbage. i have no idea how the destination of the package would modify the price of usps shipping i select for a 1-4oz package…. for about half of my listings, without any rhyme or reason. love it.
i was really hoping they’d have some insight because i have 2k listings to fix..i expected too much
anyone else keep their smiskis in their natural habitat?
i love the spirit of smiski being like house elves & ive never loved the idea of putting them all together on a shelf but i feel like i’m in the minority on that! i raise my boys free range
maybe not the flashiest pods, but here is my 4 year old a. vulgare colony at the pepper bar
im a lazy guy. i picked up a couple roly polies outta my backyard in a house i was renting in central tx in 2022 and threw em in a jar with a stick and some dirt and a leaf so i could watch em while i was high. didnt think theyd be entertaining for long, boy i was wrong. then i found this sub.
i’ve moved twice and they’ve come with me every time, and i’ve split the colony in two — one dedicated 5 gal fish tank just for the pods & another large colony in the 100 gal bioactive viv i have for my leopard gecko. they stay on the humid / cool end and have a great time. (i only got the leopard gecko so i could make a normal person excuse for having a big vivarium for my pods, im not gonna lie. but i love her. she ignores the pods)
i toss em a veggie (& the occasional tiny piece of chicken or egg) when i have suitable stuff thats about to go bad, like now… water with the extra water when i fill my water bottle from the britta lol…every few months i abduct em another A. vulgare from outside for genetic diversity, lol. havent had any problems with any random diseases yet. sometimes they make really pretty colors. i recently had to uproot an old dead plant out of the viv and i was shocked how it was basically a baby pod nursery, there were like 20 tiny guys in the roots.
ive thought about getting other species, but im kinda like why bother? i love looking at yalls pods but some of em run too fast for my liking lol. i love my little guys.
