Someone posted a way to get a $100 discount too https://www.reddit.com/r/gopro/comments/1sq733o/mission_1_discount_no_subscription_needed_ymmv/
I'm interested to see how the market responds to the ILS once it starts shipping. $700 with no lens puts it in competition with other interchangeable systems like the Canon R50 V at $620 body only, the Panasonic G100D with kit lens at $750, or a used GH5S body at $700 from MPB that can do 4K60 internal at the full sensor width. The latter would be my honest recommendation for anyone interested in the ILS. I'm also picturing that the other Mission cams would be a more durable option for anyone that wasn't already enticed by the Osmo Pocket 3 and 4, which also had a 1" sensor paired with an f/2 lens (FF f/5.4 equiv).
There's gonna be a lot of confused users out there who buy a m4/3 lens only to realize that nothing works not even focal length metadata. Given that the ILS already removes the waterproofing submersion rating, I don't know why they would omit the electronic lens connection other than licensing or development cost (or just not having the institutional knowledge to implement good autofocus). I also don't know why they didn't make a speed boosting optic that would allow you to use the entire width of a m4/3 lens on their 1" sensor. I'm glad GoPro is making significant design improvements like the 1" sensor but making a first-party back bone mod was not on my bingo card.
