My cat pooped outside of the litter box but has had no prior issues with this.
Hello. this might be stupid but this is my first time experiencing this so i am not sure how to proceed. My cat (6y/o) and i just moved about 3 weeks ago and yesterday was the first time i had to change his litter since being in the new place. Beforehand i had kept his old litter from before the move to help with him feeling more secure and such… and he didn’t have any issues using it, but it was getting quite stinky so i had to change it completely this time. This morning my roommate told me that she had noticed he pooped on the floor by his litter box instead of inside of it.
Could this possibly be related to the stress of a new environment paired with the fact that i put new litter in there? or does it seem more likely to be that he is sick? should i take him to the vet immediately or keep an eye on him if that’s the case?
also should i put some of his old litter back in there to possibly make him more comfortable?
