On 9 April 2026 The supreme court ordered housing Board to demolish 856 illegal constructions consisting of illegal Setbacks and encroachments and immediately stopped commercial activities in residential areas After this judgement people started protesting because some of the plots had around 350-400sqft area

IAS Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod, who was the Divisional Commissioner of Meerut, issued an order under pressure from "major leaders" against the Supreme Court's "Central Market Demolition Order," in which it was written that "demolition will not happen now." P. Guruprasad, Chairman of the State Housing Development, told the SC - "Due to the Commissioner's order, the department could not comply with the SC's order."

The former Commissioner tried to mislead the Supreme Court by calling his own order "meeting minutes." Showing the IAS a mirror, the SC judge read out the Commissioner's order right in the court. He said - "You call these minutes, you don't understand the difference between an order and minutes. How did you pass this order? Who authorized you to do this?"

"Who told you to hold this meeting, to issue this order. You were supposed to ensure compliance with this court's order. You have challenged this court."
