Should I keep going to my Control 1.5 class?
Hi yall! I’m about 40 classes in now and I go 3-4 times a week, usually 4. I go in the mornings since that’s the only time that I’m free, so I take 3/4 classes a week with the same instructor.
This instructor is known for being “tougher”/having harder classes (a little less explaining and quicker transitions, lots of progressions), but I’ve been active all my life (I’m a mid 20s F), so I feel like I’ve kept up really well in her Flow 1.0 classes. I feel very comfortable in those (but still a little challenged at times!)
Recently, I’ve begun taking her Flow 1.5 classes and I also do pretty well, but I’m definitely more challenged (my muscles definitely shake during these classes!) but I still keep up decently. I do one of her 1.5 classes a week. All of her Flow classes are usually full.
Recently, my studio added a 1.5 control class with the same instructor and I’ve gone twice so far. It’s probably cause it’s new, but these classes are not filling up (last two classes were at half capacity).
I definitely noticed I struggle more in these classes. The exercises are different than what I’m used to and the progressions are different than what I expected from her previous classes. I do *not* think I’m struggling *more than* the other people in the class though. Today the instructor expressed some frustration because basically everyone, including me, was struggling with a move. She also had to walk me and another classmate through a move at separate times. Once I understood the move I could do it, but initially I did not understand it.
Should I stop going to this class?
TLDR: I like the time Control 1.5 is offered since it’s more convenient for me than her Flow 1 later in the day, but I do wonder if I’m ready for it since I’m not fully understanding some moves from the jump. That said, I’m not the only one struggling in the class and it’s not like I’m taking the spot from another individual since they’ve been at half capacity so far.
I’ll likely ask her tomorrow, but she’s intimidating to me lol so I wanted some other opinions first!
Edit: you guys have been so encouraging in the comments! Thanks yall 🫶🏼. I’m going to continue taking the class and provide some feedback to the studio/instructor if the teacher doesn’t tune her plan a bit to meet the class where we’re at. I’m also going to try some more instructors too!
