Klarna appears to be actively compromised right now. May 8 2026. What to do.

Woke up today to an unauthorized charge on my Klarna account. After investigating thoroughly here is what I found and what you should do if this happened to you.

What happened: Unauthorized Amazon charge appeared on my account with zero login notification, zero email, zero SMS code. My account had zero purchase power meaning the charge was technically impossible through any normal purchase flow. Account has been dormant for 8+ months.

This is on Klarna's end, not yours: Purchases are being made without any authentication on accounts that haven't been used in months. No notification means no one logged in through the front door. This is a backend system level issue.

Klarna has already admitted it: u/AskKlarna is publicly posting on X right now stating they are aware of the issue and are refunding everything. Screenshot those tweets immediately.

What to do right now:

  1. File a dispute through Klarna referencing fraud
  2. Screenshot the AskKlarna tweets admitting fault
  3. Call your bank and request a provisional credit immediately, don't float the money for 3 weeks
  4. File a CFPB complaint at consumerfinance.gov, takes 15 minutes and puts them on a regulatory clock
  5. File with your state Attorney General consumer protection division
  6. Monitor classaction.org for Klarna, a class action is likely coming given the scale of this

Do not wait on Klarna to make this right on their timeline. Take parallel action through your bank and regulators today.
