VW dealer pre-invoiced my car to themselves 5 months before I bought it
Context: I bought a 2024 manufactured Taigun in April 2025.
Issue: When I went for my 1st periodic maintenance under VW's 4EVER Care, the service centre denied it.
Reason: "car was invoiced in our system on 30 Oct 2024, so warranty / RSA / SVP / free service clock all started then." The salesperson admitted pre-invoicing to dealer itself is standard practice for hitting incentive targets, and customers aren't informed.
Net impact: loss of ~5 months of warranty / RSA / SVP, plus the 1st free service. Extended warranty is more expensive and SVP offer is for 2 years alone.
My read: The Oct 2024 entry was internal stock-booking.
Questions:
- Anyone dealt with this exact pre-invoicing issue (VW or other OEM)? How did it get resolved?
- Is this an ethical practice? Given I was not even involved in car purchase discussion until much later.
- Best escalation routes if VW customer care doesn't resolve it?
