Back again for young maple help.

I posted a while ago about trying to keep this young “red maple” I was sold at a native plant sale alive. I have a few questions for you fine humans.

  1. Is my rootball too exposed or just about right? I know you folks love your rootballs and I’d love to get an opinion on mine.

  2. Should I be concerned about all the leaves that look eaten up? Especially the new ones? Or is that just a spring time critter cost for a tree.

TYIA!
