Why Hexes in Maps?

Might be a dumb question, but why do many rpgs use hex grids for world maps and square grids for dungeon maps? Why not use the same pattern on both, or maybe the other way around?

Even google and Chatgpt didn't help me with my research so I turn you you fellow redditors.

I remember it used cards as a resolution mechanic. Each PC has I think 3 attributes, each keyed to a color. There's a deck of cards with various marvel characters illustrations and each with a colored border linked to a PC attribute.

I remember it being very improv-like with almost all narrative with cards as resolution.

Do any of you guys know what I'm talking about?, I live in Brazil, if that's important.

Edit: In the cards I think there was only a colored border, an illustration and a single numeric value which was added to your stat. If color matched the stat, something cool happened. Was almost like a marvelskinned standard deck of cards, with attribute colors as suites.
