Introducing the Naylor Court Little Pet Pantry (Quakertown)

Hi all! It's the lady with all the "island of misfit cat" posts.

Last Christmas you may remember that we turned our old "little library" into a Christmas Angel Box for the holidays, which was a great success. We hope to do that again at the end of this year, but for the rest of the year we've converted the box to a Little Pet Pantry.

The pantry is currently stocked and available, for those who are having difficulty meeting their pets' needs. Additionally, we're in the process of collecting other large items like carriers, litter pans and crates (stored elsewhere, obviously) that can be requested as needed.

Although it's not out yet, I'll also be placing some flyers on the box that direct people to low-cost neuter and vaccine clinics in the area, and larger pet pantries that can serve more consistent needs.

Additionally, if you have (or need) coupons for pet supplies, there's an envelope in the upper cabinet (none in there yet, unfortunately, but--again--there's more to come.)

The pet pantry is located at 9 Naylor Court in Quakertown. If visiting, just please avoid blocking the neighbors' driveways.

Best drive-up water views at Lake Nockamixon?

(To preface this, I do have a map! Unfortunately the map doesn't tell me exactly what I need to know. This will be long, so I apologize in advance.)

My stepdad is 92 years old, and has severely limited mobility. It's getting to the point that convincing him to leave the house in any way is becoming a real challenge, and I desperately want him to actually get out as much as possible when the weather is nice, because he's pretty much housebound all the rest of the year.

He's able to walk short distances with a walker, or with a couple of walking sticks, but even that is getting problematic for him, and the ground has to be as level and solid as possible (even big cracks in an asphalt path can give him problems.) I have a transport chair for him, that he's finally letting me use, but it's not great for navigating over dirt / grass.

By the time I get him out of the house and into my car, his tolerance for inconvenience is already pretty low.

All that to say, the only place he lets me take him is to Lake Nockamixon. We used to go to the boat launch at the marina (there's a wooden bench right by it), but he no longer feels comfortable navigating the uneven dirt / grass to get to it.

This weekend I took him to the boat rental area. I was able to use the transport chair to get him to a nice bench down a steep but navigable asphalt path, and he seemed to enjoy that.

He wants to see more of the lake. Are there any other spots where I can park, and navigate a transport chair to a bench near the water that is on or really close to completely solid ground? I don't mind dropping him off, parking, and coming back for him to push him where he needs to go, so parking doesn't have to be SUPER close, but obviously I don't want to leave him sitting out in the sun for an extended period, either.

I know this is SUCH a specific ask, but I thought someone might be familiar enough with the park to suggest some spots that aren't obvious on a map.

An Update on BIG, Beautiful Scarlet, Still Available for Adoption!

Scarlet has now been with us for about four weeks, and we've had a chance to fully vet and assess her. I'd need to double-check that her vaccines are up to date, but--if not--that will all be taken care of.

Scarlet is now JUST skirting 20 lbs, and we're working on having her lose about a half pound a month, which is the vet-recommended rate for a cat her size. This works out to 270-300 calories a day (she's on a portioned, prescription dry diet.)

We had some difficulty getting her to eat, when she first came to us, but it seems to have been stress related. She's now eating like a champ, uses the litterbox brilliantly, and is an all around sweet girl.

She still has some mobility issues (she spends most of the day lounging in her crate), but we have a camera set up in her room, and we watch her zig-zag all over the place at night.

Every day she gets a wipe-down to help with her grooming, and multiple brushing sessions. You have never seen a cat who likes getting brushed as much as this one. She especially likes being brushed and petted WHILE she's eating, and if she has any food left in her bowl she shimmies over to it so she can enjoy both at once.

She's shown cautious interest in our cats, and no reaction at all when two of our seniors moseyed in to look her over. Over the next week we're going to transition her into another room with our most "foster friendly" cat, so hopefully she can make a friend.

Scarlet STILL needs a forever home!

Our ideal adopter will be older / established, no children (or older, calm children, who will be gentle and respectful of her), no dogs, and either no other cats or other cat-friendly cats. You will IDEALLY have experience working with severely overweight cats, but we are happy to walk you through what she needs (I promise it's minimal), and continue to provide guidance and support to ensure a smooth transition.

Due to her weight, someone who can provide her with "single floor" living would be a nice bonus, but not necessary. She navigated a three-story Philadelphia row home with no problems, and she needs exercise.

For better or for worse, she is a very low-energy cat! Safe to say she's not going to be tearing around your house and creating havoc. She gets very nervous about being picked up (again, owing to her size), so she likes to live her life on solid ground.

Scarlet is not on any medications, and although she's currently on a high-fiber prescription diet, once she's back to a comfortable weight she should be able to transition to an "OTC" fiber-friendly / weight management diet. She will also come with some personal items, like a large low-entry litter box, raised bowls, and her favorite beds / hides.

If you are interested, or would like to meet her, please let me know! She is sweet as pie, and we already love her, but she deserves someone who can give her their full attention.
