[Greenville, SC]
Hi, there! I was on a walk around Conestee Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina and came across this interesting interactions between snakes. A boy and his mom were observing these snakes from maybe 5-6 feet away and when my partner and I were passing by, the mom said she thinks the bigger snake (I think may be a northern or brown water snake?) was dead and the other two were eating it. At first I thought that maybe they were breeding, but then I noticed the other lil guy to the left was kind of nudging the middle snake with its face. I couldn’t see from where I was if anything else was going on. I guess I was hoping that someone could identify the snakes in this picture, and maybe provide a potential explanation for this interaction?
