why am I struggling so much with food??

First two images is my food base I just set up in the cherry blossom zone and the last two are my main base (food builds moved over to new base so looks barren). I cant keep up with food needs and if I just scale up the food plots the hamsters cant keep up. I'm trying to get on salads but should I just mass spam berries? food base also has pals for cake making. I'm also full struggling with pal capturing with anything over 35lvl+ and I'm HELLA behind on my gear (wooden club) but not sure how much that would help here

no clue what I'm doing wrong but its definitely something :/

just looking for tips on what I'm missing as well, that's why there's a lot of photos too.

Recently brought palworld, what's up with the new update?

By the sounds of it a big updates coming out soon, how much will it effect our worlds? my main concern is will we have to (not HAVE to but you know what i mean) make a new save after the update? This game seams really cool and id like to try 100% achievements/palpidia but id hate to get close then need to start again for all the new update stuff, I'm considering just waiting till then to play it. Also based on a brief scroll on this subreddit, does this game just turn into a breeding simulator? is it a necessity to progression of tedious at all?

sorry for all the questions but id love some answers before sinking 50+ hours into it.
