2026 Offense Will Be Better Than 2025 and Here's Why

I too am a little disappointed we didn't invest more in offense this draft, but I'm going to do a glass half full exercise to show why I still think it's improved with all the Free Agency and Coaching changes by comparing losses from last season to gains this season:

Who we lost from 2025: Matt Nagy, Conner Embree, Todd Pinkston, Jawaan Taylor, Hollywood Brown, Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt (TBD), Juju Smith Schuster (TBD), Robert Tonyan, Gardner Minshew.

Who we gained in 2026: Eric Bienemy, Chad O'Shea, Demarco Murray, Kenneth Walker, Emmett Johnson, Cyrus Allen, Emari Demarcado, Justin Fields, Garrett Nussmeier.

It's hard for me to look at those two lists and say the offense will be worse. Even if it's only slightly better, it has to be better.

[Highlight] NFL Reporter Charles Robinson Explains Jermod McCoy's Draft Slip: "It's not the ACL tear...There are some teams that are taking the position that if this next surgery, which would likely knock him out for the entirety of the year, is not successful, it will effectively end his career"

CB Board on Day 3 is Shockingly Stacked

I know we got Delane and we need a receiver, but I wouldn't be mad if we took Keionte Scott or Keith Abney at 109 to fill the Slot. Devin Moore and Chandler Rivers could be there in the 5th. Meanwhile McCoy's STILL available and his knee must be truly fucked for that to be the case.

Chiefs Day 2 and 3 Mock Draft

Pick 40 is the most obvious pick in terms of position, but who to pick at Edge is the real question? I'm not the biggest fan of Zion Young, he had very little production in college and his evaluations rely on a lot of projection. TJ Parker is coming off an awful senior season at Clemson, and Cassius Howell has much more concerning arm length than Rueben Bain, who Veach passed on. Because of this I think the safe choice is the Big 10 sack leader in Gabe Jacas who also fits perfectly with the Spags Edge mold.

I still like Jakobi Lane's tape a lot as an outside X Receiver and Red Zone threat. He's got serious concerns as a prospect but the 4th round is a great spot for him and he's one of the few potential difference makers we could get here.

I've said before that I'm high on Caden Curry and we obviously still need Edge help so it makes sense to double up.

Louis Moore is 25 years old but if Veach can get over the age he'll be getting a pro ready Safety very late.

And I've talked about Lander Barton a lot too, getting LB3 in the 6th round would be a great way to cap off the draft.

Chiefs Have Four Stud Defensive Tackles Signed Through 2028

I can't understate just how much better this Defensive Tackle room is: we went from one of the worst DT rooms in the NFL in 2025 to possibly the best. And we won't have to replace any of them for three years. Jones is still playing at a high level but having Norman Lott and Woods at 3 Tech gives him a lot more room to breathe. We can finally have a rotation and let him take some snaps off, which will make him more effective. Spags hasn't been able to do this in several years. Norman Lott already flashed last season with limited time but now has more time to recover from the ACL tear, and Woods is one of the best pass rushing DT prospects of the last several years who can now learn behind a Hall of Famer. On top of all that, you've got a reliable run stuffer in Tonga for only $7M APY for three years.

And no, I don't expect Jones to be cut or traded because he is a Hall of Famer and a franchise cornerstone. The only way he doesn't play out his contract is in the event of an early retirement.

Delane is Almost the Same Size as McDuffie

This is my biggest concern with him as a prospect. Does one extra inch mean he's a lockdown outside cornerback? Because McDuffie has not been, despite how good he is. And if Delane can't be a lockdown outside CB this was a wasted pick, especially if Bain, Styles and Downs end up being awesome at their positions. Feels like we got a guy whose ceiling is the player we just traded away.

[Goldman] Chiefs GM Brett Veach on when they decided on Mansoor Delane as their guy: "3-4 weeks ago we honed in on this guy... We let everyone think we were going to go offensive line."

Fuck

I'm really disappointed in Veach. I wait for this moment for four months and we traded up to pick an undersized player at a position we always draft studs in late, all while desperately needing an Edge Rusher and Rueben Bain was right there.

Final Predictive Chiefs Mock

Like I said in my previous mock, I do expect Veach to trade up for Rueben Bain Jr. He's done a great job smoke screening and making people think we'll do something different but in terms of draft profile and need this is the move he has clearly set the chips to make.

I do think we'll take a tackle at 29, and honestly that's not a bad spot to take one. Iheanachor seems like a higher ceiling, more athletic prospect than Blake Miller and I think that's what Veach is looking for since we already have Moore as a low ceiling starter at Right Tackle.

Veach emphasized defensive line a lot in his pressers, so I see Banks being the player he's willing to take an injury risk on as opposed to Tyson, McCoy or Mauigoa. Unless those three, he can be had without a 1st round pick. If it works out, Banks has the best pass rushing profile of any 2026 DT and would be a monster next to Jones, Karlaftis and Bain.

CB is still a need, but if Veach has proven anything it's that he can find mid and late round CB's who will become highly paid starters: Ward, Sneed, Watson, etc. Neal looks like a strong physical fit, a hard hitter, with experience against SEC receivers that makes him less raw as other mid round CB prospects.

I don't expect Veach to draft receiver early, since Rice will be back the whole season, Worthy still needs to develop, and Thornton was clearly promised WR3 level targets as part of the contract extension. I also don't think Reid will suddenly want to use a big bodied jump ball receiver for the first time in decades. Benson is someone who fits much more with the typical Reid receiver profile.

Anthony Lucas is someone I was shocked to find available so late, since I had seen him listed as a 3rd rounder in previous mocks. This seems like a great opportunity to buy low on a prospect.

Lastly, we'll need one more Safety to round out that room. Singleton isn't as exciting of a prospect as some other Day 3's but he looks like someone Spags and Merritt can coach up into a solid player.
