Following the initial announcement, I felt more lukewarm about any sort of live-action adaptation for Resident Evil at this point. Especially with how last time around with 'Welcome to Raccoon City' still not really landing despite being more closer (in a weird way) to the games than the previous action-focused Paul W.S Anderson flicks.
While I am a horror fan, I haven't been caught up with more recent prominent directors such as Zach Cregger. So when his involvement was announced as well, it did get me a bit more hype as I did recognize his name from a lot of positive buzz regarding his previous works.
The recent trailer piqued my interest greatly, as I was really fascinated by how it matched the tone and experience of the games more than I felt prior attempts have. After recently completing Requiem for a second playthrough, I decided to re-visit the original RE: Directors Cut, and I got those vibes straight up already from the shots shown so far. The director breakdown of the trailer itself also confirmed a lot of those types of observations, having me greatly hooked on to see how this movie will turn out. The concept too, I'd find, is a good middle ground to set something that's more distinct in it's own lane, yet at its core, faithful to what makes 'Resident Evil' so effective.
Anyone else had their minds changed so much with the development of this movie? I'm really looking forward to it and the new Evil Dead coming as well. A lot of fun horror stuff is converging and it's great to see a bigger prevalence today than I felt was there before.
