Reigns vs Punk was pure storytelling through wrestling
Reigns vs Punk at Mania 42 Night 2 is exactly why less is more.
No overbooking, no random run-ins, no “let’s set up five storylines at once” nonsense. Just two guys going out there and telling a story the way it’s supposed to be told.
Felt like those HBK vs Undertaker matches where the match itself is the whole point. The pacing, the selling, the way everything kept building instead of jumping from moment to moment. Crowd was locked in the whole time because it actually meant something.
Punk at 47 still doing this is crazy. Say whatever you want about him, but when it comes to in-ring storytelling and controlling a crowd, there aren’t many left who can touch him. This honestly felt like the final piece of his return. A real one on one Mania main event, no asterisk, and he delivered.
Roman was Roman. Presence, timing, making everything feel big. The guy just carries himself like the main event before anything even happens. And when he turns it on, it’s hard to argue against him being the guy of this generation.
What I liked most is they trusted the match. No Bloodline circus, no forced twists, just escalation and payoff.
One of the best Mania main events in a long time for me.
Curious where they go next. Roman back on top again, Punk with nothing left to prove. Wouldn’t mind him slowing it down a bit and working with younger guys now.
Respect to both.
