Help with preventing bringing bed bugs into house after travel

Hi,

We were just on vacation and stayed at two different 4* resort and woke up on our second (of three days) day of the second hotel with what looks to be bed bug bites. We thorough checked the room we were currently staying in and found no evidence of them. We are assuming it was the first hotel at this point. We ordered a thermal strike heater that was at our house when we got home.

We got home yesterday and stripped off our old clothes before coming inside house and put on clean clothes. Went back to the garage and took luggage out of car, put one load into thermal strike (stuffed animals, things that can’t go into dryer) and let that run. Got to over 120F for an hour and as hot as 140F. My husband put his clothes through the dryer then washed and dried again on highest heat setting. I saw a brown not moving fleck when I went to empty first load from thermal strike but couldn’t tell if it was dead bug or something else. So left the same load in there and let it cycle again and got to over 120F again for over an hour and as hot as 127F. Turned it off as I was paranoid to leave running while we were sleeping. Have left a separate change of clothes in garage to use while sorting luggage that will throw in wash/dryer when done.

We did put some things in ziploc bags in the freezer (a couple souvenirs and shoes) that I wasn’t sure were heat safe and bagged electronics into ziploc bags and put in our bathtub until I knew better what to do with them.

Our big suitcases are still sealed shut in the garage. I can’t leave shut forever but just wanted to make sure I was having an okay process before continuing to work though what we brought home.

Thank you!
