Game Devs Explain The Tricks Involved With Letting You Pause

been gaming and doing dev work for 15+ years and this feels very real to me.

the most “simple” features are always the ones that touch like 900 systems at once. when it works nobody notices, when it breaks everybody notices.

kinda love stuff like this because pausing a game sounds super basic until you hear how devs actually do it and its like... yeah no this is some taped-together wizardry.

the part that stood out to me most is how there isnt really just one “pause.” As a gamer you never think about it, but as a dev you instantly know thats where all the annoying bugs live lol.

also very funny that multiple devs basically admitted pause is a little hacky in shipped games.

honestly thats game dev.
