I'm not confident at all..

I am a 4th semester Electrical Engineering student. I am preparing for GATE EE 2027. My target is rank under 800. Here is my situation.

My constraints:

  1. I have a 4-hour daily bus commute to college and back.

  2. I am in a very low-tier college. The lab equipment is poor, and most faculty members do not teach well.

  3. I have completed very little syllabus so far. The only topic I have finished is Transformers.

  4. On college days (Monday to Saturday), I can study only 2 hours of deep study at home. On Sundays (no college), I can study up to 12 hours.

My college timings are 9:40-4 pm , i start from home around 7:30, start at college at 4:30. I commute via college bus.

I'm not well off financially so please refrain from saying " go to hostel/pg" please.

My problems:

  1. How do I utilize my 4-hour travel time for studying? I cannot function without 8 hours of sleep, so late nights are not an option.

  2. I have become accustomed to sleeping on the bus. Whenever I try to study on the bus, I feel sleepy within 30 minutes. How do I break this habit?

  3. Should I follow crash courses (short, focused) or full-length lecture series (detailed, time-consuming) for subjects like Power Systems and Power Electronics? I am still confused and am not confident at all
