Went Into an Antique Store Today, Came Out With a $400 Record

It’s my birthday today, and this is probably the best birthday gift I could give myself. I found this stuffed between some Herbie Mann and Duke Ellington records. Almost put it back before I checked Discogs. Couldn’t believe the prices. Only cost me $18! This is my best score, and I don’t think much will ever top this, if at all.

Unorthodox trio led by Lee Knoitz on alto sax, Sonny Dallas on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. Not usually my style, but Knoitz made it sound good on numerous occasions.

A few eBay finds, some antique store finds, and a majority record store finds. Really stoked with the Joe Henderson, Gigi Gryce, and the Randy Weston records.

Had a three day weekend and did some digging on opposite sides of my state. Joe Henderson, Randy Weston, and Shelly Manne were found at two different antique stores each five bucks. Louis Hayes and Warne Marsh were found at a record store in the Detroit area. The Louis Hayes does have a weird defect on the first track on the a-side, but for 99 cents I couldn’t pass it up.

Some interesting avant-garde jazz out of 60’s Japan. Reissue done by Le Très Jazz Club. They did a phenomenal job with the pressing.

Byrd has always been my favorite jazz musician. He was the first that made me really appreciate the genre as a whole. Any of his work that has Pepper Adams on it is a must listen. Those two together are my favorite paring in jazz.
