Hot take from a theatre kid
I finished Off Campus last night and I’ve read the series twice and here are my thoughts:
- I think the way they handled Ella and Belmont’s intimate scenes was insanely respectful. They showed that yes the relationship had something to do about sex but it was more about the trust than the actual act. Which is the entire point of this book. Yes, it’s a trope but Garrett and Hannah heal through each other and each intimate scene expressed that. Also, with Ella being so young I thought all of it was super tasteful.
- Allie & Dean. Honestly I think this was the smartest way to play the game. Yes, we’re missing out on some key book moments. It seems like they skimmed over it in order to set up next season but we get an ENTIRE Allie & Dean season plus those moments from season 1. I think Dean girlies are about to be spoiled next year. If we’re kind and patient they may just give us EXACTLY what we’re looking for.
- The changes (book order) were somewhat necessary for the longevity of this show. This show has the potential to run for YEARS! A lot of these actors are just getting their “big break” so the way this show needs to flow in order to be successful the
longevity of the show. These actors are talented, they are going to be sought after and their schedules are gonna get crazy. Which will lead to them leaving Off Campus. This is a great starting show but it is not nor should it be their one act wonder.
- The boys. I personally LOVE how the men were casted. Are they hot? Yes, no denying it. But they’re also real people? I love Jalen’s hair and how boyish it makes Tucker. Belmont has so much presence in a room without even trying plus mans is stacked. Antonio brought such a soft mature nature to Logan that I personally didn’t even read the first time I read it but I loved it. And Stephen is soooooo dynamic he has all these little moments, if you watch him while he’s in background scene it’s enthralling.
- The sponsorships threw me out. I wish they were more subtle with liquid IV. It was completely cheese and forced BUT the reality is: they need the money. So if you gotta pander to the camera to get this show done. You do it baby. Mama does not mind at all.
I loved it. I love book adaptations because it gets more people into reading and I love watching how other people interpret the art to screen.
