Installing unraid on qnap?

I am considering installing unraid on an old qnap and only use it for storage. I will keep vms and dockers on a dedicated machine running proxmox. The idea is to separate storage from my vms, so even if my main machine is down, i can still access the storage.

Is this doable. I am considering something like TS*59 pro and then add some more ram to it.

Should I keep using unraid for storage, or does it make sense to move my drives to a dedicated nas (synology for example)

I've been using unraid as my server OS for a while, but lately I've been playing around with proxmox.

My initial thought was to keep unraid in a VM and let that handle storage, but I've been thinking that maybe it would be better to move my storage away from my main machine. I've considered either bying a used NAS like synology or something similar ( I am not really that familiar with them yet), or getting a dumb attached storage and connect that to an old laptop, with unraid on it.

The reason I want to separate storage, is so could install plex and other media apps on another machine, for better uptime, while still have access to the storage from my main machine.

Does it make sense, or I am making this more complicated that it has to be?

Can someone recommend a book that will help me get motivated and re-light my fire?

I've been an entreprenour for the last 10 years or so, but a couple of years back, I burned out and ended up closing down all my businesses.

I am slowly getting back, but at the same time, I am getting older and that fire that used to burn in me, is slowly dying out.

Last year, I read Brian Tracys "Goals" and that awoke something in me. I need more like that.

Not necessarily as out there as the secret, but something that tells me, that "you can do this if you set your mind to it". Preferably some of the lesser known ones (I already read think and grow rich, poor dad rich dad etc).

Anyone who use a vm on proxmox as their main machine?

After playing around with moonlight, for the first I realized that this tech is good enough to replace a main machine.

I am thinking if it would be worth doing that.

But is it a thing?

Does anyone do that? And if so, what does your setup looks like?
