I'm wondering: Is this bird basking in the sun?

No, the bird is not dead!

I saw it open up one of its wings, then lay low as if to take in the warmth of sunlight.

After a while, the bird got up and walked around.

Other birds nearby were seen doing the same "sun bathing" routine -- what an unusual and cute scene :)

Do you think Tekka Centre @Little India has the best Indian rojak?

I ate Indian rojak at Punggol Coast Hawker Centre last night...

It was a meal that's both hit and miss though.

The sauce was very salty and lacked peanuts.

The condiments were very fresh, both cucumber and onions. Cut green chilli provided extra kick!

Tofu was also fresh and soft. No weird smell or funny taste at all.

However, fish cake and potato felt "old". Egg fritter was too doughy.

In the end, I couldn't finish everything; which is kinda unusual for me. I did wish it had been a tastier meal.

Now I'm wondering: since Tekka Centre houses a good concentration of Indian stalls, could the best rojak be found there?

I know the briyani and naan sold there are tip-top!

Looking forward to recommendations, whether in Little India or elsewhere. I'll travel for good eats ;)

Bubur cha cha 2nd try... looks like 928 Yishun is more the GOAT!

So I thought I'd try another Lit Lit Sin Dessert outlet -- this one is at Blk 17 Upp Boon Keng market/food centre.

Turned out there's a discernible difference between their bubur cha cha and [that hot dessert I had at Yishun yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/SingaporeEats/s/34dDRqnm7K) !

None of that soft and fragrant sweet potato and yam pieces; and no tapioca starch jelly to boot :(

Plus sago balls weren't all tiny but there were big ones; and many clumps!

Only the fragrance of coconut milk was familiar.

I dunno, mebbe this just happened to be an "off" day for the stall. It could be that it's hard to maintain consistency across all their dessert outlets.

At this point, 928 Yishun Central 1 gets my vote for great hot bbcc snack ;)

Lit Lit Sin Dessert @928 Yishun Central -- Can their hot bubur cha cha be beat?

I was pleasantly surprised when I scooped up the ingredients to have a look -- legit stuff!

And that waft of coconut milk aroma was unmistakable and inviting :)

I dug in... and discovered each and every piece was a gem. There's sweetness in the sweet potato; the yam exuded its characteristic taste; and the tapioca starch was soft and slightly chewy.

Sweetness level was about right, just a tad over.

I was thinking: This ought to be the pinnacle of a classic dessert like bo bo cha cha (as spelt on their menu).

And I shall be back to try their tau suan.

Has anyone tried hot bubur cha cha dessert here?

What other cold or hot items is the stall/brand well known for??

Are their other outlets just as good???

Possibly the best tapioca cake in town?

Anyone who's been to Maxwell hawker probably knows this gem of a snack stall ;) Or has heard about them.

Soft and slightly moist tapioca cake, freshly made everyday.

Topped with grated coconut kernel, this fragrant but not too sweet snack is so delectable :)

$3.70 for a box of 5 strips. Stall transacts in cash only.

Where to get it:

Once bitten, never try -- Raw deal of a toast set!

Came all the way here to Amoy hawker to try the famous beef hor fun... but no, they're not cooking it until 11am! Sad :(

Got some 1.5 hours to kill, so decided to try one of the coffee stalls for toast set...

Supposedly toasted over charcoal, this stall upstairs was highly recommended. But no, what an epic fail!!!

Overly sweet kaya with skimpy amount of butter inside what looks like crumpy bread pieces. Eh, where's the charcoal aroma and char marks?

Eggs were poorly done -- Not the runny yolk kind enveloped by soft egg white. Even got one egg with hardened yolk :(

To top it off, the set cost $5 -- what a rip off!? No wonder there's no queue at all, compared to coffee stalls downstairs!

As if a bad morning just started, the Original Vadai stall a stone's throw away don't want to sell me a single piece of their prawn "donut". The stallholder later relented and said she'll charge 10c extra for not buying 2 pieces! What??

I'm not going to let all this get me down. Mebbe I'll head over to Hong Lim hawker for more makan ;)

Beef hor fun can wait lol.

Anyone tried the "new kid on the block" Tonkatsu Daiki @Ngee Ann City?

How does this newer tonkatsu restaurant on Level 5 compare to well-established Tonkichi one floor below?

And what do you think of similar places like Ma Maison, Ginza Anzu, ENbiton, etc??

If you had a top 5 list of great tonkatsu places in Singapore, who's made it up there???

Where do you go for fresh yong tau foo with real lemak laksa curry? (What I had was meh!)

I recognised this YTF brand as I'd eaten at their Punggol Point Woods outlet before...

(Was told this Kovan branch is the older one.)

Their yong tau foo was quite fresh to start with :)

However, the laksa curry turned out disappointing!

What I drank was just fiery curry that's not uncommon with many YTF stalls. No taste of coconut milk; no haebi bits either :(

Definitely looking for a better experience, so do share your good finds. TIA ;)

Who's got a craving after seeing this classic hot dessert?

Sudden craving for ou chook (Teochew for pulut hitam, a staple Nonya dessert)!

Was thinking of heading to Fernvale hawker centre at first, but the prospect of riding Sengkang LRT kinda put me off lol.

Instead, I went to my favourite tau suan stall in Kovan to check out their version of pulut hitam...

I was greeted by a warm bowl of fragrant black glutinous rice dessert that's topped with rich coconut cream.

The grains were cooked till soft, with just the right bite; and the sweetness level was spot on.

Spoon after spoon, the feeling of delight was apparent!

Craving satiated, so happy ;)

I'm wondering: Where do these birds roost at night?

Seen handsome cockerels and pretty hens some years ago at the Sumang end of Punggol...

Now these birds have appeared near Punggol Place -- what a welcome sight :)

As these chickens go about their day grazing, foraging and perhaps wandering, where do they rest at night?

Are they being kept safe indoors by someone and then let loose again in the morning??

Or is there a designated place which the birds will naturally seek come night time.???

I'm plain curious ;)

I'm wondering: Why no such express bus service from North East to ulu NTU?

A bus service like 459 makes good sense, taking advantage of expressways and making only a few neighbourhood stops.

I came to know that NTU students staying in the North East badly need such a service! The MRT route isn't efficient and the commute takes more than 1.5 hours, including rushing for bus 199 at Pioneer :(

(Boon Lay is the alternative with bus 179, but with a similar frustrating experience!!)

Why hasn't an express bus service to NTU come about?

Have students asked for it before?

Or has it been deemed as low demand (i.e. an unprofitable route)??

I'm simply curious...
