Considering a move to Overland Park: which areas feel the most connected and social? How do families usually socialize?

Hello everyone,

First, I know OP is its own city, but since the OP subreddit is a bit small and quiet, I wanted to reach out to the larger KC community in case someone can provide some advice.

My spouse is considering a position in a company based in OP, while we’ve read great things about schools and safety, we have a little concern: isolation. We are very social people: we love grabbing coffee with neighbors, staying socially active, and getting to know the people on our street. We’re aware of the "suburban" reputation where people mostly stay behind closed garage doors; while we respect that lifestyle, it’s just not our vibe.

A couple of questions:

  • Neighborhoods with "soul": What are the best places or ways to interact with people in OP? We’re looking for a sense of community over just a "nice house."
  • The Toddler Social Scene: Where do families meet up? We’re looking for playgroups or community centers that are social for the parents too, not just "drop-off" spots.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Considering a move to OP: which areas feel the most connected and social? How do families usually socialize?

Hello everyone,

My spouse is considering a position in a company based in OP, so our small family would be moving from abroad (we are foreigners) for our first time living in the US.

While we’ve read great things about the schools and safety, we have a little concern: isolation. We are very social people: we love grabbing coffee with neighbors, staying socially active, and actually getting to know the people on our street. We’re aware of the "suburban" reputation where people mostly stay behind closed garage doors; while we respect that lifestyle, it’s just not our vibe.

A few questions:

  • Neighborhoods with "soul": What are the best places or ways to interact with people? We’re looking for a sense of community over just a "nice house."
  • Social Apartment/Townhome Complexes: Are there any specific recommendations, we’ve looked for example at Savoy, Hunters Pointe, Louisburg Square, and Sandstone Creek.
  • The Toddler Social Scene: Where do families meet up? We’re looking for playgroups or community centers that are social for the parents too, not just "drop-off" spots.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi everyone,

Although studies suggest that Lump Sum usually beats DCA in the long run (index investing), I prefer to enter indexing gradually due to emotional management and risk aversion.

My question is: Where do you keep the bulk of the money while you are doing DCA? I’m looking for something with low volatility that tries to beat inflation. (Please, I am looking for specific ETFs, not generic answers like "short-term fixed income", also not interested on high-yield savings accounts).

My understanding is:

  • < 24 MONTHS: Money Market Funds? CAN YOU RECOMMEND SOME?
  • > 24 MONTHS: Short-term Fixed Income? Examples: iShares Global Aggregate 1-5 Year Bond Index Fund S Hedged / Amundi Euro Government Bond 1-3Y (DR) UCITS ETF / iShares iBonds Dec 2027 Term € Corp UCITS ETF

Thanks!
