Questions about using Samsung Smart Switch mobile app to backup Android profile to external HDD fot later transfer to new Android phone

Hi Everyone,

I want to use the Samsung Smart Switch mobile app to make a complete (everything) backup of my Samsung Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone.

I have a new Android tablet (TCL NXTPAPER 14 Android Tablet, 14.3") that I got set up and running yesterday; however, this is not the device that I want to transfer my Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone to.

I have an 8 TB external hard drive that I would like to transfer the Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone files, profile, and settings into a created folder on the external hard drive to later be able to transfer to a new cell phone.

I am using the UGREEN Revodok Pro USB-C Hub 6 in 1 10Gbps hub to connect all of the components: the TCL NXTPAPER 14 Android Tablet, 14.3"; the 8 TB external hard drive; and the Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone (that I want to copy the profile, files, settings, etc. from).

So far, everything is being recognized, and I went ahead and loaded the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app onto the TCL NXTPAPER 14 Android Tablet (so that I may use the tablet as a "host" to allow the TCL NXTPAPER 14 Android Tablet to receive the Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone's profile, settings, and data).

One problem that I am having is that on the Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone, I am getting the following message on the phone's screen: "USB settings: USB controlled by connected device (switching role of host between devices) or this device." When I attempt to choose option one, "USB controlled by connected device (switching role of host between devices)," it gives me an error message (flashed so fast, I was unable to copy down the text of the error message) and will *NOT* allow me to choose this option.

Is option one the correct option that I want to choose?

Also, when using the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app to transfer the files, profile, and data of a Samsung cell phone to a directory on an external hard drive (to restore to a new cell phone at a later time), how is this accomplished from within the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app?

Is it even capable of being accomplished through an Android tablet (and external HDD) like I am attempting to do, or can it only be done through a computer or laptop?

I do have a laptop that I got but never set up a while ago now (I believe it still has Windows 10 as an OS).

I was badly hacked about 20 months ago (they wiped out my two desktop computers, both my and my mother's iPhones, and had also managed to hack into my router).

I got new Android phones since it happened, the laptop (which I haven't set up yet), and later the Android tablet.

Since the hacking, I have been using my Android phone for everything (including mobile data (no Wi-Fi)) in an attempt to be as "un-hackable" as possible.

But perhaps it would be easier to set up and use the laptop and install the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app in order to transfer my Galaxy A15 5G mobile phone's settings, profiles, and data to the external HDD so that I may transfer the data to a new cell phone in the near future.

I would greatly appreciate any comments, advice, feedback (good or bad), sharing of personal experiences (good or bad), and opinions, as well as any "hacks" or "workarounds" for this situation.

Thank you so much.

Problems using Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app to backup Samsung Galaxy A15 5G to external HDD

Hi everyone,

I have a Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, SM-S156V cell phone, and I want to use Samsung Smart Switch Mobile to back up my cell phone data onto a directory on a USB external HDD. My problem is when I open the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app on my cell phone and select "Send from this phone" and then select "Cable," the app seems to get stuck or "hung up" and says, "Connect your new Galaxy phone to your old device with a cable." If you're using a USB-to-USB-C connector, plug the connector into your new phone." I currently have a USB A cable that exits my external HDD, and at the other end of the cable is an adapter that connects a male USB A cable to a female USB-C cable, and at the other end of the adapter cable is a male USB-C connection that I have connected into the bottom of my cell phone. This adapter cable usually works very well when I use a file utility app on the cell phone to manually transfer data from the cell phone to the external USB HDD. I don't understand why the Samsung Smart Switch app seems to be having an issue with it. The Samsung Smart Switch app just gets stuck on a screen titled "Get Connected" with an animated graphic of a cell phone with a USB male cable going in and out of the USB-C port on the bottom of the cell phone, with the text "Connect your new Galaxy phone to your old device with a cable." If you're using a USB-to-USB-C connector, plug the connector into your new phone. " I have read in various forums that some people use the "Samsung Connect" app to transfer all of their cell phone data to [I am assuming a created directory] on their computer's hard drive- how would what I am attempting to do be any different? I would greatly appreciate any comments, advice, feedback (good or bad), sharing of personal experiences (good or bad), and opinions, as well as any "hacks" or "workarounds" for this situation.

Thank you so much.

The back of my Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, SM-S156V cell phone, is peeling off. Is it a swollen battery? Can I make a copy of all the data to transfer to a new phone?

Hi everyone,

The pics that accompany this post are of my Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, SM-S156V cell phone, with the back of the right edge "bent" (?) by the power button. *Please note: if the subreddit I am posting to does not allow uploading photos, you may see the photos at this safe "https://" link to a safe Google Photo Album containing the pics at: https://photos.app.goo.gl/drmMY793yMbajVLz5.

There was no "accident" that preceded this, such as dropping the cell phone onto a hard surface, such as a floor, etc.

I know from my research that a bent back of a cell phone could be caused by a swollen battery pushing the casing apart, which is dangerous and requires immediate action.

Can anyone determine, by examining the pics, if a swollen battery is likely my issue?

Probably my main concern here is saving my data before getting another cell phone. This cell phone literally has my whole life on it (in terms of data) for the past two years. I used to have an iPhone that was part of a massive and seemingly well-coordinated multi-device hacking attack. They hacked into my two PCs, my iPhone, my mother's iPhone, and even our router. When I finally figured it out, they had destroyed all of my data on both computers and wiped both my and my mother's phones clean. It was a true nightmare. When I replaced the cell phones, I went with Androids. I did get a laptop about a year and a half ago (it is Windows 10 OS) but haven't been motivated to set it up and use it (I think because of the fear of being hacked again). I literally do everything on my Android (using mobile data), and I have to admit I hate being "Android only" (with all of the limitations this brings) more and more each month that goes by.

I did buy an external HDD that I may hook up to my Android and manually back up files. In fact, I did back up my complete Android onto a directory on my external HDD. I believe I was even able to copy the files in the "Android" folder on the phone without incident. Do you suppose if I get a new Android, I could do another full backup of the phone first and then just copy the files in the backed-up folder onto the new Android and have everything work—or is this just "wishful thinking" on my part?

I would greatly appreciate any comments, advice, feedback (good or bad), sharing of personal experiences (good or bad), and opinions, as well as any "hacks" or "workarounds" for this situation.

Thank you so much.
