ridiculous punt-turned-hero-call-turned-bad-beat in ~$1500 pot in 1/3

somewhat embarrassed to post this but it was such a rollercoaster hand I don't care if y'all flame me

1/3 semi-private game, 6-handed, ~$750 effective, $5 straddle is on

BU (villain & effective stack) opens to $15

SB calls

Hero in straddle calls with A♣️4♣️

Flop (pot is $49): Q♠️8♦️6♣️

checks to BU who bets $30

My read on him is he is a theory-oriented player who focuses on ranges more than his own cards. His BU opening range is wide and I think my A high is good here some of the time. CO looks like he's going to fold.

Hero calls

Turn (pot $109): Q♠️8♦️6♣️3♣️

Hero checks

Villain bets $100

Seeing this turn card I planned to x-r almost any bet. When villain bets big I think he is polarized, either has thick value or he is trying to maximize fold equity. I nevertheless stick to my plan.

Hero x-r to $250

V thinks for a bit, asks how much I have behind, and ultimately jams for ~$660 total.

At this point I'm pretty sure I'm behind but after tanking for a while I ask him if he'll run it twice. He says yes, which at first I interpret as strength but then I think why would he even respond if he had a set or an over pair. (Additional factor was how he said it and how quick he responded, just felt like he wasn't nutted).

Ultimately because of this I level myself into calling and he turns over T♥️9♥️ for the open-ended straight draw. I'm stunned to see that I'm actually ahead. He's somewhat pissed saying "how could you even call."

We run it twice.

First river J♥️

Second river J♠️

Villain scoops.

On the bright side, the very next hand I picked up TT, 3bet jammed for my last $140, got two callers and tripled up... lol.
