WhatsApp has been updated automatically (auto updates are disabled)

I’ve checked manually for WhatsApp updates but there was none. But after few hours it has been automatically updated by itself. How is that possible? I’ve disabled automatic updates as well. Can WhatsApp do any other tasks besides updating like this?
