Any idea what can cause my computer to briefly turn itself off, but restore its prior state when I hit the switch?

This is really weird, and just happened a minute ago as I type this.

I was actively using my PC and it suddenly appeared to turn itself off. The monitor went black, but more significantly, the cooling fans in the case stopped.

I hit the power button maybe three seconds later, and it came back on to the exact state it was in - browser still open, active game still in the same state, etc.

I've never seen this happen before and was wondering if anyone has a clue as to what might have happened.

I'm running Linux on a PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor. The video card is a GeForce RTX 2060.

It wasn't a power saver mode as I have nothing of that sort set up beyond turning off the monitor after a while.

Any idea what might have happened?

I wrote a simple interface for playing with iterative functions. If you'd like to try it out, it can be found on my website at http://weirdly.net/webtoys/iteratedFunctions.html

You can adjust the number of points in use and the recursion depth. You can also drag/drop the vertices around, drag the screen to move the image, and use the mousewheel to zoom in and out.
