Great turnout today! New banner pic. Be a mod. What's on TV??

Great turnout today! New banner pic. Be a mod. What's on TV??

Today, we started sharing member photos for the banner. It is a challenging task because not all photos end up fitting the banner dimensions as expected.

  • I selected the photo that fits best and asked the other participants to send more photos. This is trial and error - I'm open to advice and criticism, so don't be shy. Know that I'm doing my best to make things fit.

Also - welcome u/DarkLinkDs to the moderation team. He is also a moderator at r/Camaro. He is very talented mechanically, is a great friend to lean on and won't put up with people that troll rude behavior.

  • Our moderation team still has space!

👋 On a personal note - it has been a long day, with a long day tomorrow, too. It is time to put my feet up for a bit. I am looking for something worth watching on Amazon Prime or Paramount+ for the next couple days. All suggestions welcome. I canceled Netflix but would subscribe again if there's anything worth watching.

Share a photo of your car to feature in our banner! Details in post.

This is our community and I think it would be cool to see our cars displayed on the banner.

Let's get some pictures of our cars used as the banner of our community. It will be on a rotating schedule. The first five people to share a photo will be used for this experiment.

  • Post the picture as a reply to this post, and make sure it isn't a thumbnail.
  • If someone else took your picture, ask for permission to use it.
  • Keep in mind that banners are short and wide, so it may not present properly.
  • The first five will be presented in order received.

I'm limiting this to the first five submissions on a temporary basis so we can figure out how to manage this. For example, how often we'll rotate the banner, and in what order they are selected. If a picture doesn't present well for some reason, then we'll move onto the next one.

Another determining factor is interest - we may receive no submissions, or maybe the interest will be overwhelming.

Any takers? Any opinions, thoughts or feelings on this? Does anybody want to help manage this?

Let us see how long it takes to receive the first five submissions!

EDIT: A photo has been selected based on presentation after being cropped to Reddit's dimension of 1072x128.

Let's get more pictures from the other folks who shared so I can try to work with the images.

👋 Great turnout for r/C5Corvette's first day back!

This is the beginning of Day 2 for the return of r/C5Corvette!

Many thanks to you all for a welcoming return yesterday. When this sub was revived yesterday, there were 2,500 existing members. To help increase awareness and welcome everyone back, I'll be posting regular updates to increase our visibility.

Also, let's welcome u/Sausages64 for volunteering to help moderate this sub. We still have room for members who would like to help moderate and grow the community. I am waiting to hear back from r/Corvette to see if any of those folks would like to participate and if we can announce the return of our subreddit over there.

Later this week, I will start a thread for people who would like to showcase their cars in our banner area. I'll post details on how to submit your car if you are interested in being featured.

Until then..... get out your New Balances and jorts and don't forget to....

r/C5Corvette will be active, once again!

This subreddit has had no activity for a few years now and I learned that it was unmoderated. Reddit granted me this community upon request. I am also a moderator of r/Chevy and r/Camaro, so I'm no stranger to our online car communities.

My next steps are to:

  • Establish a moderation team.
  • Author some "common sense" rules.
  • Make it known that this community is active again.
  • Remove the restriction to request the ability to post.

I would like to underscore that this community was left unmoderated with no activity and the original moderator is welcome to return, and their content will remain in the post history.

Hopefully we can restore a community set aside for C5 enthusiasts! Please join and stay tuned - hopefully the restricted status will be lifted in a day or two.

To preface, I have a '93 6SM and '96 4SA.

I prefer the manual because I enjoy the experience, but the '96 4SA with the 4L60E is the best experience I've had driving a torque converter - well controlled, shift points are programmed artfully so the car is responsive and downshifts timed properly when driving spirited. Shifts are crisp and predictable, and no "slush box" feeling. To my surprise, I really don't mind it.

What leaves me scratching my head is that I can't say the same for my C5 with a 4SA. That feels like the shift points are programmed for a fuel economy and a luxury car, and not a sports car.... until the throttle is opened, and it takes off like a bat out of hell. The issue is that there doesn't seem to be much provision for moderate driving.

Just figured I'd throw this out there and see if anybody had opinions, or could relate. This took my by a surprise despite having a C5 and a 4th Gen. LS1 Camaro - both autos that lived up to the term "slush box."

European Starling - OM-1 Mk.ii, 100-400mm 5.0-6.3

Per Birdify, "Dreaming of starlings can indicate a need for better communication or a warning of impending changes." -- fortunately this was merely on a wire off of a telephone pole.

If I had used the 1.4x teleconverter, I would have better-filled the frame, but after zooming in, I think I am getting better results when I crop. The camera seems to adequately track the subject despite its size relative to the frame.

The bird is much better looking when zoomed in. This file is SOOC so you should be able to view at 100% - the detail level is adequate for me considering the portability and price point of the gear.

Anyone else do this?

My first releases are scratched up from being overplayed and stored in strange places while driving. It is nice being distracted by nothing but a track number on the radio screen.
