Hey all — I’ve got a 2023 Volvo S60 T8 Polestar Engineered (PHEV) and I’m trying to be smart about battery longevity.
I charge at home on Level 1 (120V) and it takes about ~18 hours to go from low to full.
There’s no way to set a charge limit on the car (no 80/90% cap).
My schedule is unpredictable, so I often plug in when I get home low (ex: 20%) so I have EV range available if I need to drive the next day.
Last night I forgot to unplug and it charged to 100%.
It’s parked outside in an open parking lot. Today is rainy/cool, tomorrow ~75°F and sunny.
I don’t plan to drive until Saturday.
Question:
What’s the best move right now?
Unplug it and let it sit at 100% until Saturday
Drive ~10 miles to knock it down (ex: to ~75-80%) and then let it sit
Leave it plugged in (I’ve heard being plugged in can run fans/thermal management off wall power)
Also: for day-to-day, with no charge limit and slow L1 charging, what’s the best routine to balance “battery health” with “I need EV range available”?
(Any Volvo-specific insight appreciated.)
