1996 Chevy Tahoe. The keyless entry has ceased to work, except from inches away. The locksmith told me I need a new Body Control Module, but that seems like overkill. Can anyone verify this and maybe supply a part number? I'd appreciate any help.

I live in a place with seriously bad roads: potholes, unpaved, unannounced speed bumps. Are there any in the 2-3 year old range that can handle the stress? Like decent suspensions and clearance? I'll be buying in the U.S. but driving in northern Baja California.
