What do you think this means? (My interpretation included)

I personally think that this line means he is saying that the only thing left between them is separation, that is faaslay, that unke beech sirf faasly reh gaye hain, and if you look at it from a general point of view it simply suggests that there is distance between them and they are apart, but if we move away from the literal meaning and see that word as a form of connection, then the idea becomes that the only thing still connecting them is this very separation, and when he says karo umeed ke kisi safar se doori kam na ho, it feels like he is praying that these distances do not disappear, because if in reality the distance ends they would come closer and be together, however he twists the meaning and suggests that if the distance ends then there would be no faaslay left between them, and therefore nothing at all would remain between them, so even though literally it would mean they are together, in this deeper sense it implies there would be no connection left, which creates a paradox that goes against the obvious meaning and makes the line feel very clever and layered, though I am not entirely sure if this interpretation is accurate or just a personal theory, and I am curious to know what others think this line truly means.
