I’m having trouble with a Shimano XT RD-M760 Rapid Rise (low normal) rear derailleur.

Without the chain installed, the derailleur returns correctly toward the large cogs by spring tension.

But once the chain is installed, it no longer returns properly toward the large cogs. It feels like the spring becomes too weak under chain tension.

Setup:

Shimano XT RD-M760 Rapid Rise

9 speed

44T chainring

11-32 cassette

The derailleur moves freely by hand and the jockey wheels spin fine.
