Hi ladies,
I am non Emirati and my husband is Emirati. I live in Dubai and my in laws live in Abu Dhabi, by in laws I mean my MIL and her children and a lot of aunties, grandparents, uncles etc and they all live in the same house. My husband travels a lot for work and I am on maternity leave, my baby is a little over 3 months old. I did not handle post partum well and so when my husband travels he takes me to stay there so I am not alone. His family basically does absolutely everything for me in terms of looking after the baby. My MIL took all the night shifts and whenever I needed a shower or to go for a walk, aunties were happy to look after the baby. I don’t know if it’s my post partum anxiety getting to me and they just think I am a terrible mother and they don’t trust me alone with her or if this is genuinely something Arab families do by sharing the workload (as I’ve heard) because where I am from.. yes it’s normal for people to come over and bring meals and hold the baby while you shower, clean etc but this level of help to me is totally bizarre.
I’m probably just being crazy and of course I am super grateful.. I am just curious if this is standard or not.
Any insight appreciated ☺️
