🚀 New PXPlay Android Beta Update - More Fixes, More Control, Release Soon!

Following up on my previous post about the PXPlay v8.0.0 Android Beta (in case you missed it:

I've been listening closely to your feedback over the last days and pushed another round of improvements and refinements to make the experience even smoother before the final release.

You can access the beta by joining the tester program on the Google Play Store—just tap the sign-up button. (For now, the beta is exclusively available through the Play Store.)

🔧 New Fixes & Improvements Based on Your Feedback

🟢 Smarter Console Behavior

  • You can now configure a console as “Auto Connect” when the app launches
→ Jump straight into your session without extra taps

  • The Wake-Up button is now also available on PXPlay Home Screen widgets
→ Faster access directly from your device home screen

🧩 Home Screen Customization Upgrades

A lot of you mentioned the home screen needed more flexibility, so here we go:

  • You can now configure the layout to show:

    • Only one registered console card per screen
→ Perfect if you only use one console
  • The vertical background stripes can now be disabled
→ Cleaner and more minimal look via Appearance settings

⚡ Faster Remote Play Access

  • The Remote Play button no longer has to ask every time how to connect
  • You can now set your preferred default connection mode:
    • PSN
    • Manual IP

→ Saves an extra click every time you start a session

📢 Quick Reminder

This is still part of the v8.0.0 Beta, which already introduced:

  • Completely redesigned modern UI
  • Improved streaming controls & performance
  • Better DualSense support
  • Widgets & enhanced console management
  • Tons of quality-of-life improvements

(Full details in the original post above 👆)

PXPlay - New Android Beta Version Available on the Play Store (Feature Overview) 🚀

Disclaimer: All updates mentioned here will also come to other ports soon, if not already available.

A big new PXPlay update (v8.0.0) is finally available for Beta testing via the Google Play Store, it comes with a redesigned UI, better streaming controls, improved DualSense support, new home screen widgets, and lots of quality-of-life improvements across phone, tablet, foldable, and TV experiences. It is one of the biggest updates every released and I finally got time during the last few months to include some long requested features.

Besides all the other improvements, one of the biggest changes in this update is the new UI for Android and Android TV. PXPlay finally feels like a truly modern Android app and should look amazing now on both Android and Android TV. I had been planning this update for a long time and finally got the chance to work on it.

Thanks to everyone who shared feature requests in my recent Android update posts. I really tried to implement everything which was recommended, if something didn't make it, it may be added in a future version.

Highlights

  • New modern UI across the app with a cleaner, more polished look
  • Dark mode support for the new interface
  • Automatic remote registration without PIN where supported, making setup much faster (no need to be on the same network, no 8 digit PIN)
  • General performance improvements and many stability refinements

Streaming Improvements

  • Compact stream area mode for foldables, dual-screen, and flip devices
Display the stream in the top 50% of the screen for better multitasking or controller space
  • More aspect ratio options, including new zoomed modes like 21:9, 4:3, and more
  • Optional aspect ratio button during streaming
Quickly switch aspect ratio modes on the fly during a session
  • Toggleable performance overlay with live metrics:
    • Resolution
    • RTT
    • BT (bandwidth)
    • VL (% video loss)
    • DT (decoding time)
  • Configurable FSR sharpening parameter for better image tuning
  • Override settings for Remote Play and Local Play connections independently per registered console

Controller and Input

  • Improved gamepad button mapping UI
No more scrolling through huge old-style button lists and only map the buttons you need to change
  • DualSense haptic and adaptive trigger intensity now follows the console settings
  • DualSense lightbar colors are forwarded from the PlayStation to PXPlay (can optional also be shown onscreen)
  • New gamepad refresh rate setting, including Ultra
  • Individual toggle touch mode settings for different on-screen button groups
  • Option to disable portrait on-screen controller layouts if you want a cleaner portrait view

Home Screen and Console Management

  • New widget support to add registered consoles directly to the home screen and launch them quickly
  • Optional explicit wake-up button for registered consoles, available through the appearance settings
  • Registered console cards and dashboard improvements

UI / Quality of Life

  • More translation coverage and localization improvements
  • Many smaller UX refinements across settings, onboarding, and console management

General information

This update is focused on making PXPlay feel more modern, more flexible, and more powerful, especially for foldables, DualSense users, and anyone who wants deeper control over streaming quality and input behavior.

If you run into any issues or crashes, please let me know. You can join the beta via the Google Play Store. If nothing major comes up, the release is planned for next week.

I'll publish a roadmap outlining the next steps as well as the planned changes for other ports after the official release of the Android beta version.
